Best internet providers in Kettering, Ohio

#1: AT&T fiber Internet

AT&T fiber is available to nearly all of Kettering, which is great news since it’s our top recommendation. AT&T fiber offers the fastest speeds available in Kettering at reasonable prices. Plus, you’ll have the assurance that comes from using fiber, which is the most reliable type of internet connection. Fiber is less likely to experience slowdowns, which means local neighborhood internet activity won’t affect your connection the way it does with cable internet.

#2: Spectrum Internet

Spectrum is available throughout most of Kettering, with the exception of a few small areas. It’s a solid internet choice that’s well known in Ohio. It also offers some of the cheapest internet plans available. It doesn’t earn the top spot, though, because it raises prices after two years and runs on cable lines instead of fiber. Cable is still a better internet experience than DSL, but it is prone to slowdowns and lacks symmetrical upload speeds—both of which you’ll get with fiber. Spectrum does provide a limited “fiber-rich internet” option, where they’ve basically built fiber infrastructure to support their cable lines. There is one spot of fiber-rich internet availability between Kettering and Beavercreek, so that might be worth exploring if it’s an option for you.

#3: T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is another widely available internet provider in Kettering, but the actual availability might be limited depending on where you live. Due to bandwidth constraints inherent to fixed-wireless internet, T-Mobile is asking some people who try to sign up to get on the waitlist. It plans to provide unlimited service eventually, but it requires expanding on the current infrastructure to fully meet demand. If you can get T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, it’s an awesome new alternative you’ll likely be happy with. It promises no price hikes and takes less than an hour to install yourself.

Outside of the best three internet providers in Kettering, there isn’t much else to choose from. The other remaining internet providers offer service only to a limited portion of Kettering. But local fiber provider Metronet is available to some, so it’s worth checking them out if you live in a service area. It often offers similar speeds and service to AT&T but at a slightly better rate. Additionally, Verizon 5G Home Internet is available in Kettering but to only 8% of the area (as opposed to T-Mobile’s 96% coverage).

You’ll also notice that HughesNet, Starlink, and Viasat are available to 100% of Kettering. That’s because these are satellite internet providers, which are available nationwide due to the nature of their technology type. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and Verizon 5G Home Internet are also some of the cheapest internet providers in Kettering—and both promise no price hikes.

Spectrum is one of the most available providers in Kettering, and a few Kettering residents mentioned in Reddit threads that they’d heard concerning things about the provider prior to signing up but had since experienced only positives.

altafiber is another provider that’s often touted by Kettering residents, although they acknowledge that its availability is limited and not an option for all those in Kettering. But many said if you can get altafiber (the fiber, not DSL), it’s often the sweet spot between Spectrum and AT&T fiber. It offers better speeds and prices than Spectrum and a similar product for a slightly lower cost than AT&T.

Kettering is in a similar position to many US cities after the 2020 pandemic. The city has realized that its internet infrastructure needs improvement, especially in regards to equal access, education, and faster speeds. Following in the footsteps of Dayton, Kettering is working with local fiber providers in 2022 to expand and improve internet access. Additionally, the city of Kettering announced a partnership with altafiber about a year ago to create fiber Wi-Fi networks in the Fraze Pavillion, Kettering Recreation Complex, and Delco Park.
