Best internet providers in Kettering, Ohio

The best internet provider in Kettering is AT&T. Kettering has some of the best AT&T fiber coverage in Ohio, offering coverage to 95% of the area. This is good news for Kettering residents because AT&T fiber is our top-rated internet provider for 2023.

Spectrum is the second-best internet provider available in Kettering. Spectrum offers coverage to 96% of Kettering and is the most prevalent internet provider in Ohio on the whole. Just keep in mind that Spectrum primarily offers cable internet, not fiber. So most Spectrum plans will be more prone to slowdowns and will lack symmetrical upload and download speeds.

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is our third recommendation for the Kettering area. T-Mobile offers fixed wireless internet, which means it’s super easy to install but can offer fluctuating speeds. But unlike the price hikes you’ll see with Spectrum, T-Mobile promises never to raise the monthly price on you.

Our top 3 ISP choices in Kettering, OH

AT&T fiber, Spectrum, and T-Mobile 5G Home Internet are the top internet options in Kettering. Although AT&T fiber is our top recommendation, we’ll help you understand all your options to decide which one will work best for you.

#1: AT&T fiber Internet

AT&T fiber is available to nearly all of Kettering, which is great news since it’s our top recommendation. AT&T fiber offers the fastest speeds available in Kettering at reasonable prices. Plus, you’ll have the assurance that comes from using fiber, which is the most reliable type of internet connection. Fiber is less likely to experience slowdowns, which means local neighborhood internet activity won’t affect your connection the way it does with cable internet.

#2: Spectrum Internet

Spectrum is available throughout most of Kettering, with the exception of a few small areas. It’s a solid internet choice that’s well known in Ohio. It also offers some of the cheapest internet plans available. It doesn’t earn the top spot, though, because it raises prices after two years and runs on cable lines instead of fiber. Cable is still a better internet experience than DSL, but it is prone to slowdowns and lacks symmetrical upload speeds—both of which you’ll get with fiber. Spectrum does provide a limited “fiber-rich internet” option, where they’ve basically built fiber infrastructure to support their cable lines. There is one spot of fiber-rich internet availability between Kettering and Beavercreek, so that might be worth exploring if it’s an option for you.

#3: T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

T-Mobile 5G Home Internet is another widely available internet provider in Kettering, but the actual availability might be limited depending on where you live. Due to bandwidth constraints inherent to fixed-wireless internet, T-Mobile is asking some people who try to sign up to get on the waitlist. It plans to provide unlimited service eventually, but it requires expanding on the current infrastructure to fully meet demand. If you can get T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, it’s an awesome new alternative you’ll likely be happy with. It promises no price hikes and takes less than an hour to install yourself.

All internet providers in Kettering

Outside of the best three internet providers in Kettering, there isn’t much else to choose from. The other remaining internet providers offer service only to a limited portion of Kettering. But local fiber provider Metronet is available to some, so it’s worth checking them out if you live in a service area. It often offers similar speeds and service to AT&T but at a slightly better rate. Additionally, Verizon 5G Home Internet is available in Kettering but to only 8% of the area (as opposed to T-Mobile’s 96% coverage).

You’ll also notice that HughesNet, Starlink, and Viasat are available to 100% of Kettering. That’s because these are satellite internet providers, which are available nationwide due to the nature of their technology type. Although satellite internet is a wonderful resource for those in rural areas with no other internet options, it doesn’t make much sense for someone in a suburban or urban area with other choices. If you go with satellite internet, you’ll be paying more money for less data and less speed in addition to fronting hefty installation and equipment fees.

Fastest internet providers in Kettering

AT&T and Spectrum are the fastest internet providers in Kettering, but AT&T claims the top spot with plans up to 5,000 Mbps (5 Gbps). The fastest internet speeds Spectrum offers go up to 1,000 Mbps, which is still plenty fast. Although it can be tempting to get the fastest internet you can, most people don’t need that much speed. An internet connection of 500 Mbps will still feel plenty fast for the average household.

How much speed do you need?

When choosing an internet plan, you want to keep all of your activities running smoothly without paying extra for speeds you don't need. At the bare minimum, you need 25 Mbps to do light browsing on one or two devices. Most households with multiple people and multiple devices will want to look for speeds in the 100–500 Mbps range. Learn how much speed your household needs in our guide to internet speed.

Cheapest internet providers in Kettering

The cheapest internet provider in Kettering is Spectrum, but you’ll have to get their slowest plan to get that price. And the price will go up after the first two years. T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and Verizon 5G Home Internet are also some of the cheapest internet providers in Kettering—and both promise no price hikes.

Internet options in nearby cities

Thanks to its proximity to Dayton, Kettering has some of the best fiber internet access in the area. AT&T fiber coverage is also really strong in Kettering but drops off in surrounding cities, including Fairborn. What Kettering residents are saying on Reddit

Spectrum is one of the most available providers in Kettering, and a few Kettering residents mentioned in Reddit threads that they’d heard concerning things about the provider prior to signing up but had since experienced only positives.

altafiber is another provider that’s often touted by Kettering residents, although they acknowledge that its availability is limited and not an option for all those in Kettering. But many said if you can get altafiber (the fiber, not DSL), it’s often the sweet spot between Spectrum and AT&T fiber. It offers better speeds and prices than Spectrum and a similar product for a slightly lower cost than AT&T.

In Kettering, 98% of homes can get 100 Mbps, 97% can get 250 Mbps, and 47% can get 1 Gbps.

Best Internet-only service options?

Beavercreek/WPAFB area. Looking for suggestions on a local service provider for internet-only. Who has had a good experience, and what is the monthly cost?

Most helpful response

Had nothing but problems with Spectrum equipment and service. Switched to IgLou (reselling ATT fiber) and have had 0 issues. Definitely worth seeing if they service your address.

Internet

Who does everyone use for internet? I've used spectrum for almost 10 years now and have always been satisfied. They upped their price to where we are not paying 85 p/mo and the internet has been spotty. Getting very frustrated, but idk where else to go. I found a company called EarthLink that offers 75 Mbps for 25 p/mo, but I've never heard of them so I'm weary...

ATT Fiber. 500mbps for $55 per month. Zero issues.

Kettering is in a similar position to many US cities after the 2020 pandemic. Following in the footsteps of Dayton, Kettering is working with local fiber providers in 2022 to expand and improve internet access.
