Alternatives to Google Fiber: Which is better?
At 1- and 2-gig speeds, Google is hard to beat in every way it matters—value, performance, equipment and installation, and customer experience. If you’re looking for lower speeds, you might find a lower-cost plan, but you’ll give up Google Fiber’s straightforward approach, and hidden fees elsewhere might end up costing you the same amount anyway.
Google Fiber vs. AT&T: AT&T offers both fiber and cable internet in many of the same locations as Google Fiber—and has a wider variety of plans. You can score a 300 Mbps or 500 Mbps plan for a few dollars less per month, but you might have more hidden costs with AT&T, so Google Fiber will probably still win here.

Google Fiber vs. Xfinity: Google Fiber and Xfinity overlap footprints in several cities, but you probably won’t see Xfinity’s fiber service in the same place. Xfinity cable internet might be a good option if your monthly internet budget is under $50 including equipment, because you can get 50–200 Mbps for that price. You’ll have to sign a contract and pay for professional installation, but you could save more in the long run if you don’t need lightning fast speeds.

Google Fiber vs. Spectrum: Spectrum also offers slower, lower-cost plans than Google Fiber, and you’ll find it in a lot of the places Xfinity and AT&T aren’t. You won’t need to sign a contract, but expect hidden fees, frequent price hikes, and mediocre customer service that could leave you wishing for the simplicity of Google Fiber.

Where is Google Fiber available?
The one major weak point for Google Fiber is availability. The service is currently available in a relatively small number of cities. Not states—cities. That’s disappointing, and we honestly were hoping that availability would have expanded by now. Some of the major markets include Atlanta, GA; Kansas City, KS; Austin, TX; Provo, UT; and Salt Lake City, UT.
