Is Spectrum TV worth the cost?

Spectrum TV is a decent value if you’re committed to a traditional viewing experience, but it starts getting pricey when you choose add-ons for sports, premium entertainment, and international programming. You also have to pay extra for DVR capability, and there’s a required local broadcast fee, which is a bummer.

If you bundle Spectrum TV with internet services, you’ll pay a lot less for video than you would with streaming services like YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV. We love that Spectrum TV doesn’t require contracts and will even buy you out of your current contract up to $500, but you’ll pay more than the advertised price every month and won’t have access to the channel counts you get with other TV providers.

Want to bundle TV with other services?

Spectrum provides home phone, mobile, TV, and internet services, and bundling is the name of the game. With either the Spanish or English language TV package, your cost for internet speeds up to 500 Mbps is just $25–$30 more each month. Adding a home phone is about $15 more per month. If you need all three, you’ll save in the neighborhood of $100 a month by bundling with Spectrum.

Switching to Spectrum?

If you’re switching to Spectrum TV from either of the big satellite TV providers, we have great news for you! Spectrum will pay your early termination fees up to $500. Then, it doesn’t require a contract so you can quit anytime. You will probably be charged for activation, even if you do the installation yourself. You’ll also have to pay a hefty local broadcast fee and rent an HD receiver when you switch to Spectrum TV unless you decide to purchase a 4K Apple TV. Even then, you’ll pay extra for DVR capability every month.

Canceling Spectrum services?

If you don’t love what Spectrum TV has to offer, you can cancel anytime without having to worry about an early termination fee. You will have to buckle down and call customer service, though, because you can’t cancel online. As with other providers, the process of calling in to cancel can take a while.
