Hulu + Live TV competes with other live TV streaming services like Fubo, Philo, and YouTube TV. It’s also a true alternative to traditional linear TV options like DISH, DIRECTV, Xfinity, Spectrum, and other cable providers. You may also be able to bundle TV with your internet provider, so options like Verizon Fios TV and Astound TV compete head-to-head with Hulu + Live TV.
Among live streaming TV competitors, you’ll pay some of the highest monthly prices for Hulu + Live TV. We still think it’s a good deal for a lot of people, though, because your Hulu + Live TV subscription includes the on-demand libraries of Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ (plus all their exceptional original programming). If you don’t care about sports and local channels, Philo might be a better option.
Hulu + Live TV isn’t a great option if you want to channel surf or access your DVR content away from home. The service requires you to share your location information on your browser whenever you’re using it. Even then, it kicked us off when we tried to access the service from our office when we were signed in at home on an Apple TV.
We like that Hulu + Live TV offers free unlimited cloud DVR and saves recordings for nine months. You can have up to two simultaneous streams at home with the base package. You can also pay for unlimited streams at home, but we wouldn’t trust Hulu to let us stream away from home consistently.
