Is Ring worth the cost?

Ring’s preselected home security bundles range from around $150 to $400, depending on how many sensors you need in your home. You can also choose a bevy of add-ons, including Ring’s staple doorbell cameras, indoor/outdoor cameras, environmental sensors, and more. While many of those devices can cost up to $200 or more, Ring does advertise a number of refurbished devices that will save you quite a bit of cash. Overall, Ring’s prices fit in the middle of a crowded DIY home security market, but is well worth the money for the right homeowner—particularly due to its lower-than-average monitoring costs.

How Ring stacks up on value

Although most DIY home security systems are less expensive than professionally installed ones, Ring’s packages are notably affordable. It’s ideal for people who prefer to self-monitor (but its optional 24/7 professional monitoring is also lower than most of the competition).

For Ring’s lower-end prices, you get quite a lot. The eight-piece kit comes with one base station, one alarm keypad, one range extender, one motion detector, and four contact sensors. You can purchase indoor, outdoor, and doorbell cameras to further enhance your home security system.

Unlike many other home security companies, Ring doesn’t have rigid or lengthy contracts. You can try professional monitoring on a month-to-month basis and cancel anytime. Contrarily, some of its competitors have contracts of up to three years. It’s worth noting that Ring’s money-back guarantee is on the shorter side—30 days.

You might be looking for an option with professional installation, more advanced home automation options, and a longer money-back guarantee period. If so, you may be better off with another brand like ADT or Vivint.

Cancelation costs for Ring

Unlike many home security system providers, Ring makes it easy to cancel services at any time with no fees. With that said, it’s an unbeatable option for those who don’t want to commit to a long-term contract or go through stringent credit checks.

Because you’ll purchase your Ring system up front, the equipment is yours and you won’t need to return it if you cancel. But bear in mind that Ring’s home security devices are proprietary (meaning it manufactures its own equipment), you won’t be able to use them with any other home security provider.
